Trish Weis is a veteran educator. After earning a BS, and while completing an MS, from Indiana University, she taught children in kindergarten and grades 2 and 4. Her non-traditional approach to establishing learning environments and engaging children in hands on, self-selected work led to an opportunity to work for the Indiana Department of Education, in areas of early childhood education and school restructuring. The diverse experiences in supporting districts, schools and individual teachers in an array of school reform efforts prompted a return to graduate work to complete an administrator’s license. She worked as a principal and then district Director prior to adopting her infant son.
Transitioning to a position as a clinical faculty member at IU School of Education, IUPUI campus, allowed for more time with her son, as well as unique opportunities to impact children in urban schools throughout Marion County. After eleven years at the university and walking the complex journey of adoption, special needs and mental health with her own family, Trish returned to classroom teaching, in an alternative setting. Currently teaching for Lawrence Township Schools in a private behavioral health hospital, she works daily with adolescents (12-18) who demonstrate a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning challenges. She strives to mitigate the negative impact of trauma and support kids in developing emotional regulation.
Trish is passionate about teaching and learning across the life span, working particularly on behalf of those who are historically not well served.
